OPEN-EU Initiative - Call for alignment of the Council with the European Parliament and European Commission

EFAD along with colleagues at OPEN-EU, the EU Health Coalition and 6 MEPs have called for alignment of the Council with the European Parliament and European Commission in implementing obesity as a key NCD as part of the EU4Health Programme and beyond.

European Commission - update on COVID-19 vaccine

On 15 October, the European Commission presented its communication on preparedness for COVID-19 vaccination strategies and vaccination deployment to the European Parliament and the Council. John F. Ryan, European Commission Director of Public Health, discussed the update in an interview.

Mr. Ian Walton, from the European Forum for Primary Care, spoke about their support for mental health of primary care doctors and presented the findings after consulting general practitioners and nurses on the kind of support that was needed during the pandemic.

Spanish Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics - call for papers

The Spanish Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics is calling for papers for the special issue on Nutrition for Physical Activity and Sports, in order to draw attention to research that is being carried out in this field by dietitians. This call will be open until July 2021.

Free BNF Virtual Event: Nutrition and COVID-19 - 24 November 9:30am-1pm GMT

The British Nutrition Foundation are organising this free virtual event, which will bring together eminent speakers to consider new and emerging understanding of the interactions between COVID-19 and obesity, immune function and the gut microbiome, new information on vitamin D in BAME groups, and a discussion of the strengths, limitations and future requirements of the nutrition science evidence base. There will also be a live panel discussion, where attendees will be invited to ask questions of panellists. 

To complement the event, the BNF Annual Lecture will be given by Professor Hilary Powers, University of Sheffield, and a series of BNF Awards will be presented to celebrate the work and achievements in food and nutrition of individuals at different career stages, including early career scientists, school teachers and the winner of the 2020 BNF Prize.

Free EFAD webinar - Sarcopenia in liver cirrhosis: from diagnosis to treatment - 1 December 6-7pm GMT

EFAD are organising another free webinar focused on sarcopenia in liver cirrhosis.

The speaker is Fatuma Meyer, a researcher and doctorate student in the EnErGie Project at the Institute for evidence-based dietetics (NIED) at the University of Applied Science Neubrandenburg, Germany and registered at the University Medicine Rostock, Germany, as a PhD student.
