Nutrition in Children and Adolescents

Changing lifestyles is difficult. Children and young people who need to make dietary changes, for example, to prevent illness, are ‘at the mercy’ of their parents. The parents are the ones who plan, shop, and prepare the food, and they are also the ones who set limits for their children. The parents’ knowledge of health and nutrition, and not least their own relationship with the body and food, will often have an impact on the choices they make for their children when it comes to food.

World Diabetes Day 2024: Dietitians Supporting Diabetes Care & Well-being

This World Diabetes Day, EFADs ESDN Diabetes, highlights the important role of dietitians in managing diabetes effectively and improving overall well-being. Dietitians play a key role in helping individuals living with diabetes, normalize their blood glucose levels but also live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

 ESDN Diabetes Statement
The theme, "Diabetes and Well-being," underscores the role of dietitians in not only helping regulate blood glucose levels but also improving overall quality of life. ESDN Diabetes advocates for the integration of mental and physical health strategies in diabetes care, supported by technologies like continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and mobile apps, which empower patients to better manage their health.

 Diabulimia Infographic: Awareness and Action
To address the under-recognized issue of Diabulimia in Type 1 Diabetes (T1DM), ESDN Diabetes has launched an informative infographic. Diabulimia, where individuals with T1DM restrict insulin to lose weight, affects 20-30% of T1DM patients and increases risks like ketoacidosis. The infographic provides warning signs, screening tools, and early intervention guidance, available as a downloadable PDF.

 ISA Video Collaboration for #WDD2024

In partnership with the International Sweeteners Association (ISA), ESDN Diabetes experts feature in a video to discuss the impact of nutrition on well-being in diabetes. Experts Dr. Joanna Ostrowska, Martina Karbanová, Dr Maria Vasiloglou (Lead), and ISA’s Nutrition Science Director Vicky Pyrogianni, discuss how dietitians play a central role in enhancing diabetes care, well-being, and quality of life.
