EFAD urges nutritional care to be the topic of focus at WHO Regional Committee Europe meeting

A call to embed nutritional care into the prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases was the message EFAD made in its statement at the 72nd session of the WHO Regional Committee meeting for Europe. The statement was co-signed by 10 other European Organisations.

Nutrition interventions improve clinical and socioeconomic outcomes as well as health-related quality of life and therefore should be integrated in policies and interventions taken to address NCDs. Every European citizen must have access to nutritional care. Here is a video message from Annemieke van Ginkel-Res, Honorary President of the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) to explain more.

EFAD also joined other statements made at the 3-day meeting, on the importance of integrating Behavioural & Cultural Insights, the WHO Digital Health Action Plan, the European Alcohol Framework, and recommendations on Obesity.

In 2018 EFAD was accredited to the WHO Europe as a non-state actor. This allows us to improve further collaboration at a European level and work maybe work towards better health across Europe.

A few words from EFAD's ELLL Committee Lead

The EFAD Learning Library is an innovative learning resource, that I am pleased to introduce as the latest scholarly activity led by the Education and Lifelong Learning Committee.
A key part of EFAD’s mission is to support the dietetic workforce with ongoing opportunities for continued professional development. The European Advanced Competence Standards provide dietitians with a framework to plan for further learning together with opportunities for reflection and application throughout their careers.
The Learning Library currently offers 3 courses and more resources will be added in time. Evidencing such learning through learning points provides documentation for dietitians of remaining fit for purpose.
The development of the Learning Library has involved many colleagues and represents a wonderful EFAD team effort. We look forward to hearing stories regarding your engagement and your feedback.

Dr Fiona McCullough

Education & Life Long Learning Committee Lead
