Executive Committee spotlight

Executive Director Wineke Remijnse shares her first update. Dear colleagues, It has now been a month since I started as Executive Director for EFAD - and what an exciting month! I started with a presentation during our EFAD workshop at the International Congress of Dietetics in (virtual) South Africa, followed by the WHO European regional committee meeting (virtual) in Denmark, where we participated in three joint statements. I then proceeded to help prepare our own, two most important meetings; the upcoming 32nd General Meeting (virtual, October 22) with the delegates of our member associations and higher education institutions (HEIs) and our EFAD Congress, a virtual five-day journey across Europe (October 26-30). This is a fantastic opportunity for professional development and networking. I'm looking forward to meeting you all on our journey through European dietetic excellence! Meanwhile, I am trying to familiarise myself with everything that happens in EFAD - and I can say that a lot is happening. I was aware of many things, being an EFAD delegate for the Dutch Association for many years, but it’s great to see what’s going on in front of ánd behind the screens. Quite a workload is carried out by dedicated people, bringing new ideas and realising great plans. I am proud to invite you to closely follow developments within EFAD. Finally, let me introduce myself. I graduated as a dietitian in the Netherlands. After working for a year in the public health sector, I became a clinical and research dietitian at University Medical Centre Utrecht, the Netherlands. After six years, I made the transition to management and became head of the Dietetic department there. With my team I worked on the further development of advanced dietetics and the introduction of research in dietetic practice. After another six years I became a policy advisor and team manager of Quality & Research at the Dutch Association of Dietitians. My core task was the advocacy and professional development of the dietitian in a broad perspective. After working for the Dutch Association for 19-and-a-half years, I am honoured to share my experiences with EFAD as the new Executive Director. I look forward to collaborating with dietitians, associations and HEIs and our other partners in the field of nutrition and dietetics. See you soon!

#EUChooseSafeFood aims to explain the role of science in food
Encouraging Europeans to make confident food choices by explaining the critical role played by science in food safety is at the core of the European Food Safety Authority’s new EU Choose Safe Food campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the science behind our food and tell the story of the scientists who work to make sure it’s safe. Its overall goal is to encourage citizens to think critically about their everyday food choices. The campaign promotes awareness to citizens aged 25-45, with an extra focus on women and young parents across Europe and with a particular focus this year on nine EU countries: Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain.
